I think the most imporant thing I want my kids to know about history is that what they put in most history books isn't the whole truth. You have to look at many different sources and it can be hard to get the whole picture for a while. Also, in school they like to skip around a lot and they dont teach things in order and it makes it hard to see how it's all connected. They also leave a lot of things out. It's important to me to try to help them connect the dots and fill in the blanks.
Anything about Christ. The Revolutionary War, The Civil War, World War 2, the fall of society and the resulting Home-Education Movement as well as the Pro-Life Movement, and the Trump presidency.
I want my children to be firmly rooted in The Bible first as true history, and understanding of Christ and His redeeming power. Then, after an elementary overview of U.S. History and World History and Cultures, I believe that it critically important for them to know about The Roman Empire and The Holocaust, as well as The Industrial Revolution, then Modern History & Current events simultaneously with a study of the history that is to come, which can be found in Revelations, in order to maintain a Biblical understanding of the times we live in and our true role in HIStory! (Tip: I was always a poor history student in public school, not at all finding the material engaging, nor being able to retain it. But reading Tapestry of Grace's Primer Guidebook for Parents revealed to me how important knowing history is and it sparked my love to learn more! It is now my favorite subject! I am now using history curricula designed for homeschooling middle school and high schoolers (such as Tapestry of Grace, Master Books & Simply Charlotte Mason history series to teach myself!)
