I'm more unschooling and going with my daughter's particular needs, as well as having to put special emphasis on speech articulation with a couple other possible issues and so it takes a little more for us to build up to the reading. I only know homeschoolers who are very strict with either curriculum or the hours a day they do schooling. Some do full eight hours. I also know some who started so young and don't stop till their children are extremely ahead of their grades. I have to spend more time on the basics and also can't do the extreme hours daily due to work, nor would I want to put that much on my daughter. We don't know many homeschoolers and the ones we do, we just can't find a fit. Days spent with some of these families leaves me feeling inadequate and hopeless at times, as well as lonely.
I wish I didn’t and could just accept things as they are and be ok with that.
I'm homeschooling a child with a disability. Most homeschoolers I know are not teaching a child with a disability so I am constantly having to remind myself that my reality is going to look different and very little of what is working for them applies to my family.
