I would make a sauté. If a person can learn that one technique, they can make hundreds of dishes and never make the same one twice. :)
Make a man a saute, you feed him for a night. Teach a man to saute, you feed him for a lifetime!
I would choose dishes from all around the world. My girl scout troop got to earn a patch for doing something similar, but they only got to make 4 dishes from 4 different regions. I would let the students choose different regions of the world and then cook whatever is native to that area. ie=> Great Britian we made "bangers and mash", the south (in the USA) the girls choose to make gumbo and beignet's. We made all of the different meals but the girls also had to learn something that they found interesting about each region as well. It ended up being so much fun and pretty educational!
